The BP Oil Spill - This will be the game changer.

I think that the BP Oil Spill disaster, currently ongoing in the Gulf of Mexico, will be a game changer. Maybe this disaster will finally make us all realize the kind of damage we are doing to the planet in order to continue wasting energy at such a phenomenal pace. Maybe we start to realize that we, (man), do in fact have the power to destroy our environment and in more ways than one.

The Global Warming deniers just cannot believe that man has anything to do with the changes currently happening to our climate. Anthropogenic Climate Change has just got to be bullshit because little old powerless humans don’t have the power to affect the whole world. Well, I think BP is working on changing our minds on this right now. BP is demonstrating not only our power to destroy our environment, but giving us a great example of the folly of our efforts to obtain oil no matter the cost. They are also ably highlighting the corruption in their industry and the government regulators that allow them to have carte blanche to do as they will. BP is single handedly, using only one oil well, demonstrating how to destroy an entire ecosystem and along the way, take away the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of fisherman and everyone who relies on the tourism industry in the region. Not too many tourists want to go to the beach to watch Pelicans die.

One would think that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) might have prevented this disaster if they actually gave a shit about the environment. If they did, giant Oil companies would not be allowed to drill in the Gulf of Mexico, Alaskan Wildlife Preserve, or anywhere where a single accident could cause this kind of damage to sensitive ecosystems. Even now, right in the midst of this calamity, are governments putting a stop to this insanity? No, they are annoucing 6 month moratoriums on any new offshore oil leases. This doesn’t do anything to stop Big Oil from happily drilling in their current leasholds. The hope would be that BP can get this toxic gusher under control and in a few months, the complacent public will forget all about this minor problem and then everything can go back to the status quo. If BP gets really lucky, maybe Brad and Angelina will break up next week and our complete attention would then be focused on that. We would forget all of this oil spill stuff with critical shit like that happening After all it gets kinda tiring watching that oil well spew 10,000 gallons of crude a day into the once azure blue waters of the Gulf. . So what if the water is more of an dark orange now. It’ll match the sunsets better.

If corporations had any ethics or morality, BP (and TransOcean and Halliburton) would spend every dime they have ever made to shut off this runaway well, clean up the mess (which will take years and probably decades) and look after the hundreds of thousands who will be losing their livelihoods like fishermen and anyone who has anything to do with tourism in the region. I suspect however that if this is going to happen, they will have to be forced to accept their responsibility but this in unlikely since all of the government regulators are completely under their control.

As well, people are not only going to be suffering from loss of their livelihoods. Since BP is not properly training their clean up workers or providing them with the necessary protective equipment, many of these workers will sufferfrom long term chronic illnessess from exposure to the combination of oil and the chemical solvent in the dispersing agents. They are apparently rerunning the game plan from the Exxon Valdiz spill.

Anyway I believe this environmental nightmare in the Gulf is going to be the Game Changer. We are going to have to wake up and think about going down a different road. A road where environmental concerns come first.

Jack Kirby Invented the Blackberry

Jack Kirby was probably the most prolific comic book artist of the Golden or Silver ages of Comics . One of Jack Kirby’s most creative periods was in the early Seventies where he wrote, edited, and penciled all 4 books in his “Fourth World” Series. The series was an unparralled achievement consisting of four titles - The New Gods, Mister Miracle, The Forever People and an entirlely new version of Jimmy Olsen featuring the resurrected Newsboy Legion (a Kirby favorite from the the Golden Age).

Jack invented the Blackberry in the early seventies. All of the New Gods, the Forever People and Mister Miracle had one. Jack called them Mother Boxes. The Mother Box did everything for its user/owner but was also uniquely more than just an inanimate device. The Mother box was friend, helper, protector and advisor and became an integral part of the hosts life. In short, it became an on board mother. Much like the Blackberry today. Jack could see the future. He just got the name of the unit wrong.

Above, Orion uses Mother Box to soften his appearance. Orion was born in the fire pits of Apokolips and had the characteristic rough appearance of one born in the maelstrom. Mother Box had the ability to create a smoother more pleasant appearance so that Orion could walk in harmony among the other New Gods.

If only my Mother Box could do this.
I am sure Blackberry must be working on this app right now.
When they test the Beta version i willl be first in line.

Hey Lab Guy I have a question for you, What are your Views on 2012? What do you think will happen? It is only two years away.

Lab Guy -

Are we talking about the movie? I saw the movie and thought it was perhaps the worst film ever made. This movie is so bad that it makes you wish for the actual end of world so that you don’t have to watch the whole thing the whole thing. Three hours can seem endless when you are watching 2012.

If we are talking about the Mayan calendar ending in 2012 which will signal the end of the world, well that is absolute bullshit. If the world ends in 2012 then it will have been a total coincidence and will have had absolutely nothing to do with Mayans, Nostradamus or Erik Von Daniken.

If the world did end in 2012 this will be a totally a coincidence and if it does happen the most likely scenario i can foresee would be that someone forces Mahmoud Achmadinajad to watch the 2012 movie and he is so pissed at western civilization that he decides to let all of his nukes fly toward Hollywood in an attempt to stop Roland Emmerich from every making a movie again. I know this seems like overkill just to get the one guy, but you would also want to make sure that you got John Cusack too, just in case he had any thougths of starring in a sequel. You just wouldn’t want to take that chance.

Hahaha, I also saw the movie 2012 and I agree it was pretty weird, but Yes I was talking about the mayan stuff. So you think that it is pretty unlikely that the world it will end in 2012? Cause I have some stuff to do before 2012. So what’s the deal with all this end of the world shit anyway? It seems like a lot of stuff is going to happen like earthquakes, floods, planets, sun going to explode… Like how is it that all this shit is going to happen on 2012?

I too have stuff to do and hopefully after 2012 as well. As far as what is going on with all of this end of the world shit? End of the world shit just fills a basic human need. If we don’t have enough to worry about we start to cast about for something catastrophic to think about. It keeps us all on our toes, operating at optimum capacity through increased adrenaline production. As well, End of the world shit sells an awful lot of books and movies and forms the basis of most major world religions. This is what religions were invented for. If you are worried about the end of the world, or just your own end, (which is essentially the same thing), they figure you might just turn to their religion for some comfort and then they got ya. See the Movie 2012, the Koran and the bible for further details.
